This is way more exciting than I can believe , Yesterday and now today with the Precious Roscoe in the script . Panels one and three are just too precious for words . And of course panel four with the shade on Earl’s head and Roscoes thoughts . I just could scream out loud and swing around a tree . Thanks Brian for this .
This is obviously geared towards us older folks who recall the cone of silence. For you youngsters, it was a gadget in the 60s spy spoof TV series “Get Smart” starring Don Adams as Maxwell Smart and Barbara Feldon as his divine sidekick Agent 99. Among the many other goofy spy gadgets was the shoe phone. The show also generated a catchphrase that became widely repeated: “Would you believe….?”. It entertained us without the need to invoke much gray matter.
For all he knows, she might be about to suggest she make more meals to his liking. Or ask him if he wants something he had mentioned in the past. Of course, now, he is not likely to hear anything that will make him happy. He made sure of that.
My recollection from “Get Smart” is that the “cone of silence” was the least effective, secure communication device in history. Also, not applicable, because it was supposed to enhance communication between two people in a secure manner. What we have here is a lampshade “isolation booth”.
