I’m not sure I want to go to a hospital that provides Wile E. Coyote’s foolproof capture devices.

I’ve been told that patient privacy is the reason they have to use fax machines.

The fax machine has gone the way of the dodo bird in my country. Fax machines were done away with many years ago by government entities, banks, and businesses. Everything is done electronically – even hard copy is scanned and sent to an electronic file.

It is almost impossible to find a fax machine, anywhere. I know, and I’ve tried because the absentee ballot system in Florida still relies on an archaic fax system rather than electronic balloting!!

Health care is thousands of different businesses of one to hundreds of thousands of people in size, paid by (dozens? more? 38 in California) insurance companies regulated by 50 states plus the feds and no one to set standards for data or the ability to protect that data.

No matter how they do it, they still seem to make billing errors. Have known too many people that have had to get States Attorney’s involved when the insurance company is saying they paid and the medical provider is saying they haven’t been paid. Someone’s trying to commit fraud and it’s not always the insurance company. It seems once in a group phone call with the States Attorney the money always seems to be found. Always some kind of clerical error. Likely done on purpose for someone’s benefit, but never the patients.
