This is true. I usually let them scamper around a few days before…

Put down the hammer and step away from the hole.

I seem to remember making this same point to various critters.

    They seldom listen.

I’d be worried too if my house were infested by muscular, tool-using mice with opposable thumbs.

Keep in mind, that the mouse has demonstrated that he is clearly adept with his hammer; and knows where you sleep….

That argument works on two legged pests too.

Watch it. He’s got a permit, and the car signed an easement.

I found that the best bait is whatever they are eating. They learn to avoid the bait in the traps. Mine run in terror from instant breakfast powder sprinkled over peanut butter granola bars.

I see the efforts of the mouse as self defeating. The hole is now large enough to allow the cat(every cartoon household has a cat, right?) to enter and wreak havoc on the mouse and his immediate, and extended family.

I use sticky bait traps concealed from pets and children by being enclosed in a mailing tube cut in half. Not humane but very effective. A mouse will only be in the house a few minutes before it finds one of these enticing tunnels.

Come on! It’s not a bearing wall, and with no bottom plate it’s just begging for “open-concept” treatment with the kitchen.
