The good news is that Trumpâs incompetence means almost all his acts can be undone fairly simply. The bad news is that the stain on our character is visible from space. It will be for centuries.
The persistent Trump âbaseâ and the Republican members of Congress who maintain fealty to Donald Trump do so for a variety of reasons.
âMembershipâ in the Trump base may include entry into one or more of the following categories.
1. âAll-inâ isolationists, ultra-nationalists, white supremacists, racists and insurrectionists Arguably all those who marched in Charlottesville in summer 2017 and many of those stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 are openly racist, and have felt liberated by the rhetoric and policies of the Trump era.
2. Opportunists and political chameleons Those who fall into this category recognized that the Trump train presented itself as a vehicle by which one could achieve fame, success, ambition and political or personal gain.
3. Narrow-minded, limited information input and vulnerable to cultism This group of followers is either actively or passively limited in the information that they receive through on-air and online media outlets.
4. Voting with their pocketbook Members of this group are totally focused on individual and family wealth.
5. Hold your nose and vote Republican These group members are cousins of the previous group.
6. But he and I are Christians! In many ways an outgrowth of the latter group, these followers maintain their identity and faith as evangelical Christians. They have consistently voted Republican for a widely varying set of reasons, the abortion issue first and foremost among them.
The âfalse flagâ theory would have worked better if the nutjobs had not exposed their faces and posted their short-lived âtriumphâ online. Please keep track of those who espouse such views. At some point they will be trying to sell you a car or insurance or get elected, as though they can be trusted.
Remember this Trumpers: your reward for rallying to Trumpâs aid and trying to overthrow the government will get you labeled as âAntifaâ the moment Trump gets any pushback⊠and no pardons for you eitherâŠ
There are more signs of hope on the horizon (some more fulfilling than others of course):
The Senate Ethics Committee are reviewing the involvement of Cruz and Hawley in the insurrection (I donât expect and worthy results from this but the bad publicity may sway some voters away from their camps). There are billboards up in Texas calling for Cruz to resign. Hawley, who was photographed saluting pro-Trump protesters before they stormed the Capitol, has faced severe political blowback since Wednesdayâs deadly riots: a former mentor disavowed him, Simon & Schuster abandoned plans to publish his upcoming book, a prominent donor who gave Hawley millions called for him to be censured and Democrats, as well as a handful of Republicans, have accused him of helping to incite the violence that left five people, including a U.S. Capitol Police officer, dead. People in Missouri are calling for him th resign.
A year-end federal filing from former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows shows legal expenses that experts say indicate it is âhighly likelyâ the North Carolina Republican is under scrutiny for campaign finance violations.
The New York court system is reviewing opening new State charges against Bannon.
More than 370 Capitol Hill staffers signed an open letter to senators asking them to convict Trump. This request stems from Trumpâs ârole in inciting the violent attack at the Capitol,â per the letter. âFor our sake, and the sake of the country, we ask that they vote to convict the former president and bar him from ever holding office again,â they wrote.
To remove the two week delay, go to Scottâs regular page.
His true colors are being shown.
By alleging that itâs pointless to have an impeachment trial now, heâs really saying, âGive every former president a get-out-of-jail card â for free!â
As was said this morning on the View, not impeaching Trump now will lead to the unintended consequence of inexcusable behavior from presidents in their last weeks in office.
Lame ducks can become cornered wolves.
Been there, done that.
But the next one with ill intent may be competent.
The reason impeachment after he left office is irrelevant is, itâs been done before. But because weâve never convicted a president before, that means weâve never convicted a president after he left office before. But leave the office of president out of it, and there is precedent for impeaching and convicting after tenure is over.
The train wreck weâre approaching, though, is that there were enough Republicans already voting against even having the trial that, if I were the oddsmaker, Iâd say weâre heading down the same track as last year.
DJT acquitted again.
And so, we see Keven McCarthy coddling Marjorie Taylor Green, while Liz Cheney is being treated like yet another extreme far left traitor and socialist dictator.
In other words, Liz Cheney is fighting for her job. MTG is not.
And donât get me started on Coloradoâs embarrassment, Lauren Boebert.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Republican Q-Anon Party!

I guess if Republicans say ANTIFA enough times, weâre supposed to believe it exists?

Pretty darn close to âinterviewsâ I have seen on Fox ânewsâ.
Megan Kelly did one just like that with Ralph Nader a couple decades ago.
