The purpose of this toy is not to amuse the user. It’s purpose is to annoy other people.

I seem to remember the Guv and Hedley (Mel Brooks and Harvey Korman), being momentarily amused by the paddle toy.

I’ve never understood parents who give their kids toys they know they themselves will later find annoying. Don’t like noise? Don’t buy your kid that toy trumpet thing. Don’t like to step on stuff? Don’t buy your kid jacks or Legos. If Mom or Dad gives the kid something, kid is obviously going to think it’s OK to play with it. Then every time he does he gets yelled at.

Never had one of those, but at the age of 6 I did get a yo-yo. Played with it for about 10 seconds and then asked myself, is that it. Because it would roll down but never roll back up the string like you seen it done in the commercials! First lesson learned that toys don’t work as they pretend to be in the ads.

Actually, I find it a step up from an etch a sketch. At the very least I could annoy other people with it. Etch a Sketch was what they handed me when they wanted me to be “good”. …ick

In my kid world the purpose was to use it until it broke and then the adult took it back and used it as a paddle.

The whole purpose of that toy is the suspense that builds and builds … until the elastic string breaks … that’s amusing .

And yet with the same brain stem, someone brought pet rocks and fishing line that could cut grass… and they walked away with millions, and they have a house in the Hamptons. But it won’t take long for Calvin to figure that out.

Some can’t do it, and so it creates instant strife, leading to violence, leading to broken toys, leading to more sales.
