Sorry, Wiley’s Dictionary got it a bit wrong this time. There is a big difference between “Jazz” and “Funk”. A band such as Parliment/Funkadelic doesn’t quite equate to Mile Davis’ 1st and 2nd great quintets, but gotta give him credit for trying.
I think it was a GEICO radio commercial, but it started out with some blues guitarist talking about how life was doing him wrong (wife left him, dog died, something else), all while starting into deeply blue twangs of the guitar, and then he discovered he could save 15% in 15 minutes with GEICO and then all his guitar could play was … (cue the Andy Griffith theme song)

I didn’t know funk referred to jazz. There was a lot of funky music in the 70s, but it wasn’t jazz.
