To those who find it uncomfortable or unfunny, please realize that it is the aim of a social satire cartoonist is to lampoon the absurdities and painful realities of life, in order to promote thinking, discussion, and debate.
OK Dan, I was willing to give you some leeway but have been severely disgusted with some of your latest comics. This one and the rape one have put me over the edge. I’m deleting you and issuing a formal complaint to Gocomics.
I believe one of the main impetuses for legalizing same sex marriage was that divorce lawyers realized the potential business opportunies. Cynical but true.
This creeps me out because when I was a teen, the police wouldn’t get involved in domestic abuse cases because it was “between the husband and wife.” This attitude led to my friend’s mother getting repeatedly beaten until she died.
Yet another reason I don’t think of the “good old days” as being all that good.

Unfortunately, for some people, spousal abuse is real life. And so is homophobia. And so are individuals who think that either or both are “right”.
There are also individuals who can sometimes laugh and sometimes be serious, even with the same audience… Dan among them, I believe. If someone assumes that Dan is laughing when he’s really trying to draw our attention to a dangerous absurdity, I would say that that’s their problem, not his.

Spousal abuse has gone up since the onset of the Pandemic. Such abuse is all too common and was for too long allowed. It must stop.

This comic is not about spousal abuse, that is just a tool to the deeper issue. It is about homophobia.
