Isnât it kind of hilarious how angry people get at the Political Representatives they elect when theyâre pretty much a reflection of the common person that voted for them.
Or as Forrest Gumpâs Mama said, âStupid is as stupid doesâ.
Well, thereâs speaking truth to power, and hereâs speaking truth to stupid. (Actually, I think âstupidâ is too kind, but this is a comics page.)
These certainly arenât Republican voters holding one of their own accountable for criminal activity. They only get mad when their elected officials donât vote the way THEY want them to.
As someone once said on âHee Hawâ, the difference between a horse race and a political race is that in a horse race the whole horse runs. And the more we voters look to government instead of to ourselves to âsolve problemsâ and give it the powers it claims to need to âsolveâ them, the more attractive political office becomes to the most dishonest and power-hungry equine hindquarters, and the more repugnant it appears to the more decent among us because they know what that kind of power will do to their souls.
Alex de Tocqueville âIn a democracy, the people get the government they deserveâ.
If you donât think about the future and the consequences of dumb but expedient actions, thatâs what you get. Itâs easier to vote for a party, rather than examining the candidateâs records, but itâs not smart nor helpful. Sometimes, itâs better not to vote.
It is never enough to simply show up every two or four or six years â all the tough decisions have already been made by then â you must involve yourself in politics at the granular level. Here in America your choices are limited to either âAâ or âBâ, the others on the ballot are just there to confuse you, so, if youâre not assisting at a local level to get someone elected you are deciding youâll take whatever they throw at you.
The âparliamentaryâ system used by various European countries is slightly more equitable, but that, too, can descent into anarchy.
Get involved or be satisficed with whatever âTheyâ decide is âbestâ!

The voters should have gotten a clue when watching his TV show that ran for three seasons starting in 2004.

On one of the earlier Monk shows, Sharona tells Monk that she doesnât vote because that just encourages them. Best summation of politics ever.
