The idea of “doing what you love” makes sense as long as “what you love” fits at least 2 criteria – first that it is something someone is willing to pay for, and second that it is something you are willing to put the time in to get to a professional level. I love making paper air planes. However, not really enough to get good enough at it to make a living at it. The key is figuring out what you are willing to work at hard enough to become good that people are willing to pay enough to satisfy your needs.

What Color Is Your Parachute is a book by Richard Nelson Bolles and has been around since the 1970’s. I referenced it when I was a teaching Career Planning back then.

Boyd, Boyd, Boyd – you are already tall and thin, vertical strips will make you look like a homeless meth addict.

“So, what do you want to do?”

“I already told you: sit in Starbucks and read a book.”
