Does it make any difference that they’re giant gerbils? They make so much noise running back and forth all the time, day and night!

If one side inhales, the other exhales.

Maybe put a giant ball-valve in the middle of the pipe?

That pipe is going to be a real problem for people coming home late at night…and tipsy to boot.

Usually it’s old mansions that have secret passages.

Then again, this one doesn’t look all that secret.

Some friends did something similar in the early days of the residence halls at UW-GB. They had back-to-back apartments, with separate entrances. All the roomies agreed, so they cut a doorway through the common wall. It was better than having to go outside in the winter. To hide it from the RAs, they put large wall hangings over each side of the opening. It lasted until the following summer semester. They had the windows open, and one of the maintenance people noticed the wall hangings blowing in the breeze.

They CAN do something about it. The pipe is clearly blocking the exit, so this would be a violation of building codes and fire codes. The occupancy permit could be revoked and everyone have to move out until it was fixed.

On a less practical note, when I was a kid, I used to think the idea of human-sized Habitrail systems would be pretty cool. In high school, I used to wish they had these between the buildings/wings in the winter! No need to lug around your coat all day.

The police may not be able to do anything, but I’m sure the building inspector and fire marshal would be happy to discuss the matter.

Heh, policeman, the apartment extension blocks the exit! It’s a fire hazard!
