Another planet? That’s a little vague, Ripley. That could be any planet! It could be our planet, for all I know! And I won’t be looking it up in Wikipedia, thank you!
Eromlig and Steve were returning from the local bar one afternoon when they spotted a lamb stuck in a barbed-wire fence. “I wish it was Jayne Mansfield caught in that fence that way,” said Eromlig. “I just wish it was dark!,” said Steve.
Well, it wasn’t a discovery by the banders in Rector but something others have observed, banded and reported over quite some time. It also occurs on other species and an organism (we see it more in insects than birds) so endowed is called a gynandromorph. Besides the anatomical split of male and female features, the sex organs also split with male and female on opposite sides. What is not known after years of study is whether or not a gynandromorph can sexually reproduce. Sorry Rector, PA, it was a nice find, not a discovery.
Last week, birders on Facebook were excited because a cardinal with the same condition was photographed. It’s called bilateral gynandromorphism. The cardinal is red (male) on the right side and tan (female) on the left. AFAIK, the bird hasn’t been examined. But, there is speculation it may have male organs on the right and have female organs on the left.

That doesn’t look like a Red-breasted Grosbeak. It looks more like a Red-right-winged Grosbeak.

I thought Rasputin was a monk! I guess celibacy was not a requirement for his unofficial order.

Does that mean hermaphrodites are in animal kingdom too?

The local church leaders immediately condemned it. (Take your pick, the bird, the daughter, the extra terrestrial photography).

This was the first documented case of cross-dressing birds. The second one was an ostrich that wore fishnet stockings. BELIEVE IT, OR DON’T!

And one of Rasputin’s cousins ran a dry-cleaning business in Des Moines. BELIEVE IT, OR DON’T!

“Researchers”? Or bird-watchers? What could they have been researching, cross-gendering of grosbeaks?

The bird is cleared by the Biden Administration to join the military.
Maria Rasputin, in exile, was mauled by a bear. Unknown if it was a euphemism for Soviet Union.

Hermaphordites are not uncommon in animals, so why are people so concerned about them in humans?
