Mom’s right, but there is one thing about a dog/cat/farm-animal: They remind you to tend to em. Plants just suffer for awhile before dying. As I know full well… Fish too, I suspect, but I haven’t killed one because I’ve not owned one.
Don’t foist an unwanted ‘test pet’ on her, it’s not fair to the pet. Instead, put her through a voluntary “test commit”. An hour of extra chores every day for whatever period seems appropriate.
