I’m very sorry to hear that, Teresa. This pandemic has taught us much about the fragility not just of human life but of human society. Bolsonaro’s approach to the virus has been even worse than Trump’s (if such a thing were possible), so the conditions for your friend must have been truly horrific. There has been much attention given to the physical health effects of the virus, but not as much to the mental health effects, and as a result there is even less support for that — especially in a place like Brazil. So, my condolences on the loss of your friend. May his memory be a blessing to you.
Among the permanent changes flowing from the pandemic is the psychological damage building up from isolation and desperation. I’m sorry for your loss, Teresa.
It’s a pure parallel. The majority of the harm befalling those who contract covid comes from an over-reaction of the immune system. And nearly all the damage done to society, and individuals in that society, during the pandemic panic, is due to the societal or governmental over-reaction.
The virus itself has done less harm than has the authoritarian response to it. Suicides, especially among teens, are way up. Murder is up as well. And, of course, the lives ruined, and businesses and careers destroyed, are in the millions.
The government won’t let all the facts to be released. They don’t want to panic the public until the government politicians and their rich friends are in a safe place so that they don’t have to worry about the money from every country to be worthless.
I’m overwhelmed! We need to stay strong and go forward and continue to have hope that soon, this nightmare will end! The pandemic brought to realization whats important in our lives! I mourn those we have lost, but those who have survived, must never look back and rebuild their lives, learning from lessons they’ve learned. Life isn’t easy-peasy anymore. Priorities in our lives must take a front seat. Hold close, those you love and cherish, respect and giving of yourself is key. God Bless!
I am truly sorry to hear that, Teresa. What is happening in Brazil is outright criminal! I thought the Failed President in the United States was horrible, but what Bolsonaro has done to the people of Brazil is unforgivable! The utter hopelessness of the situation has driven many doctors and nurses, like your friend, to despair and suicide.
Here in South America, where neighborhoods are family, we have all been touched by this horrific pandemic. Within the past three weeks, just in my little barrio in Machala, Ecuador, I have lost three neighbors, and I have also lost one relative, and two close friends to the Covid-19 within the last two months.
My heartfelt condolences on your loss, Teresa! I have lost two friends to this horrible disease and two other friends have lost immediate family members.

Mental health and the surrounding stigma is a societal wound that needs treatment before it kills us all.

The republicans let Trump kill 500,000 Americans and shut the country down for a year, stop voting for crazy murderous fools.
