In the fourth panel, Alice reminds me of Carnac the Magnificent on Johnny Carson. I always thought that was one of Carson’s funnier recurring sketches. “May the fleas of a thousand camels…” Too funny!
I feel compelled to point out the subtlety of Richard’s (rest in peace) drawing of Alice’s eyes in panel 4. With the slightest of angles on the upper portion of each eye, he perfectly captured her angst in being seen by her dad while she plays dress-up. Awesome.
It’s an Alice Parade! Funny, it must be the weekend to have Dad around so much, but I’ll bet she doesn’t even notice that Mom is there, until she needs something, of course. If they moved to a bigger house, would Petey choose the basement, the attic, or the cottage out back surrounded by the moat?
This is my absolute favorite strip of this whole comic. It reminds me so much of me and my dad when I was growing up (I’m now in my mid-40’s to give you an idea as to how long ago my childhood was). I emailed my parents a copy of this one years ago and they had a nice laugh.
I was taking care of an 8 year old girl today. Her mom came home and all the stuff in two arts and crafts sets were spilled out all over the floor. I’m dressing up a giraffe and she’s dressing a cat. Mom looks at the two of us and asked who is in charge. I said “the 8 year old. I’m playing.”

She is quite the little puzzle, isn’t she? As in the last panel.

I always thought this one had such Edward Gorey-esque overtones. I wonder if it was intentional and Thompson was a fan.

How inconsiderate of dad to not give them all that they are entitled to
