Charles Schulz said, “A cartoonist is someone who has to draw the same thing day after day without repeating himself.” Mutts comic strip picks up on this by doing something very similar but changing it every so slightly for a week.
I did go back and read them. Wonderful! Thank you. I’m a retired teacher and I really like Jef Mallett’s respect and appreciation of teachers, but I hadn’t seen this string.
Charles Schulz said that a cartoonist’s job was to do the same thing every day without repeating himself. If there was a flaw in that statement — there wasn’t a flaw, of course, but if there was, it would be limiting it to cartoonists. That’s kind of the job of living life in general, wouldn’t you say?
And I should probably explain Frazz’s t-shirt graphic. The typographer who designed the cover for the Talking Heads “Remain in Light” album did that with the A’s. And that’s the album with “Once in a Lifetime,” with the repeated line, “same as it ever was.”

The more I read this strip, the more I like Mrs. Olsen.

Might be her way of revealing that he’s NOT her favorite thing about teaching.

Even when things are/seem basically the same, they are different – new people, new reactions/responses, and new/more confidence?

Mrs. Olsen learned years ago that the best reactions are the most casual. Stay cool and let it ride.
