@Linguist Today’s strip IS funny, for our HERO M r Andrew Capp and his alcoholic cronies the biggest tragedy that had happened to their friend Fat Stan was that he had stopped drinking beer and getting rounds :o( my avatar is a spoof of the American Denis the Menace getting Mr Wilson in trouble with his wife ffor ogling his pretty neighbour , well he may be old but he ain’t dead yet :o) come avete passato il vostro Sabato mio meno vecchio amicho ou Saturday should be busy but we should cope I hope we have already done our bulk shopping but the wife is in an irritable mood , we are having tropical heat that is early for Malta but we did not have a power outage last night no more errands to run so I’ll keep MY temper down and stay upstairs with the AC unit on , keep safe and a bientot pal
Just because he’s gone on the dry doesn’t mean he can’t spring for a round for his old pals, once in a while. It’s not even a matter of economics. Lots of these non-alcoholic drinks cost as much as one with alcohol.
Maybe Fat Stan’s just quit going to the pub and shelling out for the moochers, like Andy, and getting nothing in return but a slap on the back and a Laurel & Hardy handshake.
my husband’s best friend stopped inviting him over and hanging out with him when my husband stopped drinking; wouldn’t accept my husband drinking tea while he drank his beer. sad to find out his friendship with my husband was based on a drinking buddy and not a true friend.

Maybe Stan just gave up beers, you could still have some laughs over a few Mai-Tais or Scotch and Sodas!

Poor Jack just lost a bit of his business. So buy Stan a diet soda.

When you quit drinking, many friends suddenly appear to be loud, boring louts.

I’m not drinking anymore. Of course, I’m not drinking any less.

I think they should have wake for Fat Stan, since he’s as good as dead to them. They could invite Stan so he could deliver his own eulogy.

Fat Stan giving up booze is enough to drive Andy to drink.

Stan didn’t tell anyone that he switched to meth to lose weight.
