As much as I’m of German descent who barely knows German, I sure would like to see my favorite German YouTuber Rewboss (well, he’s actually a Brit living in Germany for the past few decades) discuss the 1,200 COVID-related vocabulary.

If the snail has low friction, wouldn’t it just be swept away by any movement of the water?

I guess they got bored in Germany. Why not pass the time in lockdown by coming up with a bunch of new words? Video games get old after awhile.

I’ve seen the turkey(kinda looks like jb) – believe. I read about the snail – but wonder how it stops once it gets started – kinda believe. And if you’ve ever heard a German farmer cuss at a cow – I’m surprised they only came up with 1200 new words – not.

There once was a cat who learned to play golf. He hacked up a lot of green.

Snails learned that ability from pols.

I’m amazed that turkey statue has lasted past hunting season. It’s a turkey hunter’s dream come true.

So long as the word bier is still good for a stein, most bierliebends won’t argue about the new additions.

Does anyone else here think it is bizarre that the Germans came up with 1,200 new word because of covid-19?

Seems like all you have to do to get mentioned in Ripley’s is carve a 20 foot statue of a farm animal, and give it a ubiquitous nickname. It begs the question: Is it really SPECIAL to invest one’s time in carving large sculptures of animals, if either quirkiness or record-setting were the primary motive?!?

I strongly recommend not eating your breakfast bagel with cream cheese while reading about Moon Snails.

None of those words could be said in prime time on public television.

It is rumored the statue honors either a former governor or former senator.

How many feathers on a normal turkey? I remember pulling feathers off a Christmas goose and thinking they were multiplying.

I’d like to see an analysis of those 1200 “new” German words. German likes multicompound words a LOT, and a lot of German words translate better into other languages as multi-word phrases.

Same thing with the bit about Eskimos having a hundred different words for snow. The local weatherman’s forecast of “Light flurries towards morning, growing heavier towards midday with increasing winds and possibility of drifts,” could be one of those “words”.

Uh why are the number of feathers on the statue estimated? Did the artist lose count while assembling the statue?

And each word in the German language must have at least 23 characters
