They can play dead for a long time and they even smell like they died. I’m not sure about the smile, but possums seem to have an extra set of teeth.

Mr. Coverly, I appreciate your amazing weirdness. Of course, I may be just the tiniest bit stoned …

“Playing Possum” like this may eventually have consequences similar to “Crying Wolf”.

Now, oh possum, you got great power to fools folks, but with great powers comes great respossumability.

We have a possum that lives on our property. We used to call it Pete the Possum until we saw HER traipsing along with a bunch of babies hanging off her.

Possums are mainly insectivores, that is, they eat bugs, including tics, so we are happy to have Priscilla on the property. They are good animals to have around.

I found a possum lying on our sidewalk. I knew he was playing dead because I flipped him over so he was lying on his other side. He flipped himself back.

I went to run a possum off one time, because my neighbor’s kitten was trying to play with it. I just kind of prodded it with a lawn chair, and it went into the “broken leg” act, and for a half minute or so I believed it, and felt terrible, then I thought “Hey, its a possum. That’s what they do.”

I have a possum down the road from me that’s been playing dead for a week. Talk about dedication!

As far as Pogo there is concerned, that gag never gets old.

Bob, you presumably have a gun. You can make sure he doesn’t just PLAY dead.

a dog at a place i was visiting had attacked a possum. i was sure it was dead. it laid there motionless for quite a while. after it knew the dog was no longer near. it got up and left the area. i was totally amazed.
