Hiccups, for us, involve an involuntary contractions (spasms) of the diaphragm (the primary muscle which causes the lungs to contract).
I thought that since (most) fish don’t have lungs, they would/could not hiccup. I found out otherwise from Google: In fish, the nerves that activate breathing from the brain stem to the throat and gills are prone to spasm – initiating hiccups.
