Poor Arlo. I can relate to how he feels. Even tough you’ve done something hundreds of times, when you are doing it for others you (and they) have greater expectations. I give him one more day and he’ll be the king of the kitchen again.
I’m kind of distressed at this arc. I feel like A & J are being taken advantage of by Gene and Mary Lou. I mean, helping for a few days is one thing, but I have this feeling that G & ML will end up expecting (or being dependent on) it becoming more long term. I’m retired and older than A & J (although I was more their age when I started reading the strip!) and I think doing a job like this would kill me with the stress – at the very least I would hate it and become very resentful! It’s one thing to “help” your kids, but really…. And just because Janis likes it, she’s guilting Arlo into doing it too. G & ML need to hire more help: if it isn’t available, they need to reduce their hours or the number of tables in the dining room!

I still think that dishwasher is Arlo’s true calling.

No gloves? I hope that cheese isn’t going into any cold sandwiches…

I think Arlo’s problem is that he’s too tall to be a short order cook.

I like how Gene is relating to his father. I guess it’s because Gene has raised a child himself now.

Was there a joke in today’s comic? If so it flew right over my head.
