You can stomp a small fort-sized patch down, but burning an entire cornfield like you’re Quantrill’s Raiders or something?

That’s some big trouble you’re asking for, kid.

That’s a bit of a sadistic grin there, Amelia.

I would think the growing season in Maine would be tight for corn? But the storyline is too funny to care.

Wait until Mom and Dad get the bill for that. It’ll take a boatload or 3 of lobsters to settle up.

Put the sun to your right or left and walk straight keeping the sun at the same position or walk straight towards the sun. You will walk in a relatively straight line for at least long enough to get out of the field.

If I may be allowed a serious post, I’m a former farmer and we still have a cornfield (rent the land out). In decades past, you could follow a row out of a cornfield. Today, the stalks are grown so close together for higher yields that there are virtually no “rows” anymore! You could much more easily get lost today!

I mean, it’s miraculous Sterling managed to restrain himself from trying such a plan for even this long.

The corn is planted in rows, isn’t it? Just walk to the end of the row.

I like the horrified look on Amelia’s face in the third panel, but she recovers nicely.

Facial expressions in the last panel. Amelia is the only one smiling.

Walk in one direction and you will hit the edge of the field. In Kansas, some of those rows are a mile or two long and you could end up at the far end of the field. In Maine, the rows are 100’ long until you encounter a rock.

I’m not sure whether Amelia is smiling at the idea of Spud lost in a circle in a cornfield or the idea of Sterling setting the corn on fire …
