“I’m catching the early bus”? Is Canada so rich they can afford multiple buses to go over the same route to pick up school children?

“Now! I can get my house in order!”

That is definitely something you don’t want to hear your child’s babysitter say.

Before I’d do anything else, I’d take a mini-vacation to slough off the stress of having Lizabeth and Michael home all summer.;-D

I have always felt that fall began the year rather than January.

I went to school in Pensacola and for grammar and jr high there were no school busses and we were on our own to get there. Grammar was a half mile walk and jr hi a mile and a half (checked it on google maps). We would form little groups and go together. It was a different world then.

I love Elly’s dress! It reminded me of that fashion. I used to have one with similar pockets, and gathered skirt. I wore it for about twenty years, even after it went out of fashion…

In elementary school, we rode the bus to school, but once in junior high we walked. Of course it helped that the school was about 3 blocks away. Once in high school, we cut through the athletic field of the junior high to get there. That made it about a mile walk. (And it could be a bit eerie in the early morning fog heading for band practice.)

A decade or so after I finished school, the junior high buildings were fenced in completely while the gate at the entrance to the teacher’s parking lot was removed. That made it easy to cut through the jr. high property without allowing anyone near the classrooms. It was still the best way to get from my old neighborhood to the high school.

When I was in elementary and middle school (up through the 8th grade) we could catch the “early bus” which was the bus for the senior high (9-12) students if we wanted or needed to get to school early. School started and ended an hour earlier for the senior high students. This was because of the lack of school busses and drivers.

If this comic was upto date then this whole idea would have been upended by Covid. It’s really sad.
