… and the old people were complaining how they didn’t have any of those newfangled movies, candy was a penny, they’d already had a job since the age of four, people dressed right, music was music, and you should all be so lucky.
. . . and the flag had 48 stars and STOP signs were yellow and pay phones required a nickel and cars had no seat belts and all airplanes had propellers and England had a king and nobody had ever climbed Mt. Everest and I read my comics in newspapers.
And people still hated each other because of their race or nationality, they used drugs, politicians lied through their teeth, crime was a problem, women and children were abused, and there was war in the Middle East and Asia.
I remember being in awe when my grandma told me that when she was a kid, you could get a (bigger) Hershey bar for a nickel. then she explained how hard it was to get the nickel.

Just remember, If you don’t remember the past, you are doomed to repeat it. Much better to remember it and build on it.

When he was their age Connie Francis was on the pop charts but The Clovers were recording a song that would make Cardi B blush.

How old is Grandpa? Sounds more like a description of Grandpa’s father’s life.
