It’s not all drama. There’s comedy too. Like the time I watched two Fisher Cats chase our resident rabbit around the yard. Back and forth, to and fro, two against one, it was quite the show. And they never caught the rabbit.
I live on a lake. Couple winters ago, I saw a coyote chasing a deer on the ice out in front of my windows. (It was not smooth so they had traction). They went round and round, the deer turned and challenged the coyote a couple of times. I ran outside. When the deer saw me, it ran directly towards me and stopped at the opposite side of a shed from me. The coyote started to follow it but stopped when it saw me. I hollered at it, and it went down the lake. I peeked around the shed. The deer looked right at me for a few seconds, and with a snort it ran down the road into the woods, as if to say “Thanks”. Wildest thing I’ve ever seen. I kicked myself for not grabbing my phone and recording it.
I have to confess that I’ve seen certain nature shows that leave me shaken, as well. I won’t even give you a description of the lion pack taking down a gazelle in Africa… Shudder

You should see what happens when they hit a group of birds at the feeder.

Sometimes, nature is brutal and difficult to watch. Survival can be a struggle. We’re fortunate to be near the top of the food chain.

Maybe now his little chipmunk friends will remember to make their payments on time.
