Heh. Nice one! Turns out I’m about to be in-law related to a Crypto enthusiast. (father of my grandson’s fiancée). His primary characteristic (which his daughter inherited) seems to be enthusiasm! … but he’s also something of an iconoclast, so it’s easy to see why he loves crypto. I tried pointing out that actual factual money has two other aspects: It’s both government supported AND legal tender. He’s not buying my argument. And I do admit, he’s gotten quite a large bump in … it’s not quite “paper” profits. So far. Maybe he’ll get bored (see “enthusiast” above) in time to get out with a good real profit. One may hope.

I was in Venus Beach when a mime was trashing store displays for laughs. One store owner cold-cocked him and the crowd cheered.

ALL national currencies are fiat. Nothing supports them beyond “the good FAITH and credit” of their governments….

ALL currency is this “solid and secure” held up by the shared belief that it has value, rather than anything intrinsic. This goes for gold, too. Yes gold is physical, yes it is limited (silly basis of a monetary system considering the huge amount of energy pouring into the earth every day creating new value), but what makes it valuable is the shared belief that it is valuable, rather than anything intrinsic.
