Sounds about right

I thought doves were white. Not purplish gray.

Dove season in Texas sounds like a fire fight in downtown Bagdad. All aiming at one dove…..and it avoided every incoming flak burst!! So some turn to ambush by shooting them off the power lines and hoping the Squirrel Sheriffs are not around. Which is a false hope….they’re always around.

Many moons ago, Terry Wassman and I would climb to the top of his dad’s barn and shoot pigeons (none of those fru-fru doves for us). His mom made a mean pigeon pie, but we also had to provide for the barn cats.

When young we hunted morning dove in the harvested corn fields every year. It helped keep there population under control. And we ate all we shot.

I haven’t seen a robin in two years, maybe they are shooting them.

We have plenty of doves around where we live, though I can’t help but think of “Duck Hunt” looking at this one.

Seems like awful lot of shooting for very little meat ?

Poor Doves. And they represent peace and union?

I think it’s dove season in some states right now. The people that I know that hunt them eat them. I guess I think of it the same way I do duck or pheasant hunting. We have a bunch of pheasant in the freezer right now

You do know that doves and pigeons are the same thing they are both from the bird family Columbidae, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbidae. Remember if our ancestors hadn’t hunted many of us wouldn’t be here. I don’t hunt myself but if someone eats what they kill whats the problem, It’s better than them starving to death and who knows the way things are going in this country many of us may find ourselves hunting and foraging for food.Also man will always find ways to kill others, most serial killers don’t use guns and gang members will find ways to obtain illegal firearms,

I have never shot a dove, but I have shot three raccoons!

Hubby was a bad shot. The black lab was an excellent retriever. When hubby kept missing the birds, dog would go “Hunt” turtles, bring them to hubby, and keep them from leaving the area. When hubby was ready to leave he told the dog to put the turtles back where she found them. She did, and they went home.

They’re tasty… That’s why.

Because you doves are tasty.

if they said it was pigeon season, a fair number of complainers would stop.

And the only difference between being classified as a pigeon vs a dove is size (members of the Columbidae family of birds above a certain size are called a type of pigeon and those below it are called a type of dove).
