When the “two way wrist radio” was first introduced, what, back in the 1930s? It was sheer science fiction. Now, except for the projector, what he described is not even as functional as a smart watch. I know they used to have a two way holographic communication feature but they specifically had a strip in which Diet Smith called those back in for some reason.
This just crossed my mind, since the reporter is not shown with a notebook or tape recorder is the jewelry around her neck a listening device of some sort?
Where is everybody at the MCU? No Sam? No LIzz? No Lee? Only Miss Rose and Tracy? Hmm…feel a song coming on "All to ourselves, we seem to have this precinct all to ourselves…what do you wanna know? See how I flash my two-way wrist radio for show, Soon and very soon, let me take you there, Miss Rose, no this and no that’s ,you got to see the gallery of my shot up hats.
Wowsers, a whole day’s strip taken up just to demonstrate the amazing holographic features of the wrist radio— what’s tomorrow, a cutaway diagram? Nicely drawn, though….
I wonder if a malfunction in the device could bring the criminal thru the dimension of time right smack dab into the present or is that to Twilight Zonian ….hmmm
Y’all do realize that in real time this detective is over 100 years old, maybe 120! He became an adult detective around 1933! Looks good for an old geezer!
THE HATNOTIST: YOU ARE IN MY POWER. YOU WILL DO WHATEVER I COMMAND… oh. You have company. I’ll call back later…In the meantime – YOU WILL NOT REMEMBER THIS CALL.
Before anyone gets too upset about this stroll down memory lane, please remember that Chester Gould often did the same thing between major stories. There are numerous examples of one or even two week recaps in Gould’s work, especially when he was reminding his readers of the nifty technology in the police department. He spent a lot of time, for example, on the Tele-Guard Camera, and how they had used it in clever ways on different cases.
Blackjack! I actually like him quite a lot. He’s fond of those broad-brimmed hats; he’s an ace pistol shot (no pun intended, card players); he’s hooked on “Tubthumping” https://tinyurl.com/3273jy4z ; and he has an unaccountable man-crush on Tracy! His crimes didn’t really amount to much, but he is young enough to build up more of a dossier. Give him time (not Time in the greybar hotel!). Little Briar Rose seems duly impressed by the technology of the Wrist Radio, though she probably has no idea at all who Blackjack is….

Will Tracy surprise Ms Rose that she is in the Law Enforcement Database?

Good morning™, everyone!
Could this be our “villain du jour”? He should be in jail, but the jails in Tracy’s town don’t seem very secure.

My, my, my, a very well dressed bad guy. He must have stepped out of a fashion magazine from the late 1940’s or early 1950’s.

“Don’t you have crimes to fight or something?”
“Purple…what? Say what now? No, I have plenty of free time to kick around. Uh, don’t print that.”
