September 11 is part of Red’s future. A part that Rover will not live to see unless he really does age at the same rate as Red as the recent Rip Van Winkle dream story arc suggested.

As I say in my comment on today’s Wizard of Id, 2001 was a futuristic date for much of my life and became a reality when I was 34. Now, of course, it is a historic date with September 11 2001 a moving and tragic day in a historic year.

Many of Red’s adventures take place in my infancy as I was born in 1966 and started school in 1971. I remember “Jaws” coming out when I was eight and there has been at least one reference to that classic film in this strip.

In the last panel, is that a weeping willow?

Dang it – my dog is 250 miles away on a day of all days I need to hug him!
