That is the problem with modern life, everything goes so fast, we are all so busy, that we forget to contemplate the simple but beautiful things in life!
This is all a nice theme about taking pleasure with the small things, but you gotta keep in mind, last Sunday they lost their 1-year-old baby somewhere outdoors and they seem to be pretty nonchalant and unconcerned about finding the missing baby 3 days later.
I love the color of the leaves. That Autumn blue in the sky. Halloween and Thanksgiving. The gathering of the harvest. The need you feel to prepare for winter. The gangs of birds flying South. Back to school time. Thinking of Christmas coming around again.
A calendar year and a dog have a lot in common. A year lasts 12 months, a dog averages 12 years. That proportion. Halloween comes, it is like a dog turning 10! Time moves very fast, but then, it was invented by Humans!
For me, this is the best time of the year (October, November and December). It’s autumn, with nicer weather and things tend to settle down into more of a routine. Then there’s the upcoming holiday season.
There’s nothing beautiful about wood fires burning. My eyes are burning and I can hardly breathe from wood fires burning. Not to mention the horrific forest fires in California. No, I can do without that.
It appears my comment asking about John’s bug-eyed reaction in the final panel has been disappeared by the monitor. Very curious. I have not had a comment censored in awhile. I believe my comment was:
Why does John looked so surprised in Panel 4?:
1. He is surprised that Elly has been busy.
2. He is surprised that Elly almost missed it.
3. There is a giant moose off to the side behind Elly looking like it is ready to pounce.
4. John remembered the one sense not mentioned in the prior dialogue was seeing, and he is trying to make up for it.
5. John realized that he doesn’t remember where he put April before they went on the walk.
6. John just realized he is missing the World Series.
7. John is disconcerted because Elly’s height keeps changing in every panel.
8. John just remembered he was supposed to do the punchline and he forgot what it was.
Where I live at we had short taste of fall, the trees are trying to recede, leaves not changed too much, and not much on change of color’s on trees. We had sever weather that went through and today is really windy, just no much on leaves to walk and crunch on when walking. That will change early next week. The worst part my husband cannot go outside to walk, though he have to use his walker.

Yes, sometimes you just have to stop and smell the roses before those roses wilt.

Ok – the ad to the left of this is for Male Real-Fit Adult Underwear… Is this telling me something? And why did I look at it too long?

“All the leaves are brown, and the sky is gray. I went for a walk on a Winter’s day” (well, late Fall anyway)..

Fresh corn is a July treat. By this time of year it’s long gone.

Because he is what he is I am surprised he doesn’t love the smell of stale popcorn.

Sometimes, we need to pause making a living so we can just do some living.

This morning, a stunning sunrise painted the sky where I live. I’m always attuned to Nature’s beauty, but have no one to share it with.

I love this; we all need a reminder to stop, set our business aside, and just go be in the world for a bit.

John shouldn’t be looking sad; he should be pleased at Ellie’s insight!

I love this time of year too. Leaves slow to turn this year, though.

Wow, there are actually SOME sweet and warm moments in FBoFW when Elly is not childbashing

Ahh, I miss those times, my husband’s been gone over 16 years. We loved walks in the woods and drives!
raybarb44 about 3 years ago
Most of us get that way one time or another. Hopefully our partner will get us to get back to what’s really important during those times…..
