And St. Ronnie pushed the idea of the “trickle down theory”, of which the conserves readily adopted. Not because it works, but because it makes the rich richer. So, yes the damage can be long lasting.
But Ted, come on man. The Orange One makes it so easy to blame him for all the inane things he did and said.
Posted elsewhere:June 26, 2021 — At a rally in Ohio, his first since leaving office, Trump boasts that Biden can’t stop the process he started to remove troops from Afghanistan, and acknowledges the Afghan government won’t last once U.S. troops leave.
“I started the process,” Trump says. “All the troops are coming back home. They [the Biden administration] couldn’t stop the process. 21 years is enough. Don’t we think? 21 years. They couldn’t stop the process. They wanted to, but it was very tough to stop the process when other things… It’s a shame. 21 years, by a government that wouldn’t last. The only way they last is if we’re there. What are we going to say? We’ll stay for another 21 years, then we’ll stay for another 50. The whole thing is ridiculous. … We’re bringing troops back home from Afghanistan.”
I get it Ted, its easy for the Democrats just to blame Trump for anything and everything and the Trumpster deserves it! I feel progressives have the right to do this but I suspect that many in the middle/center-right like Biden will use the orange haired tyrant as an excuse for not being committed to real change. So it makes sense that Banker Joe will blame Trump for a lot of things his 4 years in the Oval Office. I think it is a convenient way for someone in the “middle of the road” idealogically can pass the buck and old Joe does know how to do that even if he struggles at other tasks.
Biden also points fingers at the Repubbas in Congress along with those in his party who appear to be obstructing a lot of the bills and programs that are in flux right now. Joe Manchin by himself is going to make it difficult to have any decent bill go through reconciliation. In addition, Manchin is not the only roadblock to eliminating the filibuster who is not a Repubba, just ask Sinema or a few establishment democrats in the senate about that, heck Joe is not on board himself, he just complains. Over in the house, Pelosi has to unfortunately appease about a dozen conservative democrats every time she wants something passed that will have zilch GOP support due to the poor showing the blue party had in 2020 with the loss of critical seats. The right wing Democratic reps like Kurt Schrader (this dude is a piece of work like Coal Fired Joe Manchin) sees how he and a band of Dinos in the house can try to bully Pelosi like Manchin and Sinema go after Shumer. Yes, Trump was/is horrible and evil but there are a lot of other ****ed up things in Congress. I get your cartoon concerning Joe and it truly would be great if AOC got elected, if she gets the nomination it means that the DNC has finally been reformed after ripping off the progressive wing so many times to support middling establishment old guard politicians like Hillary and Joe over real change.
They still blame the Great Depression on Hoover, and Shrub was responsible for the Great Recession. Are you saying we should just ignore and forget history, Ted?
And actually it’s McConnell’s fault. He’s the one that refused to consider holding hearings to seat a Supreme Court justice in the last year of a President’s term. unless it’s a Republican president.
Point one: Consider the progress Biden has made in just a few months. If a few more Dems get into congress and the senate, replacing geniuses like McConnell and McCarthy, there may not be anything to blame on anyone.
Point two: Dems don’t seem to play the blame game. That’s a republican thing, and has been as far as I can remember.
That ma be his intent, but boy, upon first reading I thought it was an anti-Democrat (for not being progressive enough) cartoon. Until the AOC panel, and then I got confused.
I think maybe Harris was picked precisely because she is un-electable, other democrats felt they had a shot in 4 years then. .. .after they shivved Sanders
Please, Ted Rall, just go on and join the Republican Party already. You spread the “conservative” message more effectively than any other “conservative” cartoonist. (Do you even know why I put “conservative” inside of quote marks??)
When I taught history I would suggest to my students that when we are in the middle of history it’s impossible to make historical judgments. (In fact, those contemporary judgments become part of how that history is seen). Historians generally say 10 years for an event to become “history”. So, could the prediction of blaming Trump for decades occur? Certainly. I’d suggest that over the next 24 years that there will be plenty of events, persons and ideas that make this scenario less likely. Or not.
Oh please, Theodore. This from the guy who spent the first two years of the Trump administration whining about the supposed sins of Hillary Clinton. BTW Trump packed the courts with unqualified judges and justices, including Beer Keg Kavanaugh, so indeed, as late 2045 it will still be Trump’s fault.
tRump is at fault for what tRump did – and didn’t do – only. If those actions and inactions are a lasting detriment to this Nation, tRump deserves and earned the blame and fault.
I begin to despair that the liberal democracy of the US will be around that long. The failures of stability in the basic structures of government, the pressures of social disruptions and the global climate emergency don’t give much hope. Either we rediscover the social requirements for cooperation or we go down the tubes.
It’s way beyond me how anyone could read this cartoon and think Rall is pro-Orange Buffoon. I guess some people think if you don’t kiss up to Banker Joe that you can’t be on the left. That’s ridiculous, Banker Joe is not on the left.
