That has not stopped our former President Donald Trump from making an ass of himself. Most recently he has posted an upcoming holiday event where he will state yet again that Biden stole the election (then, why did the Democrats lose nine seats in the House and Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Susan Collins (R-ME) all get reelected?). Wasn’t it George Satayana who wrote, “Obsession is increasing one’s efforts while losing sight of the goal”?
Disagree, Aunty. There is an infinite amount of dumb stuff that a person can do in one lifetime.
As for actually getting smarter, I think it comes and goes. Today I was discussing with my wife how I handled a certain work situation, and I mentioned how smart I think I’ve become — or at least a little more savvy in dealing with people — over the years. My wife took credit for that, suggesting that in the course of our marriage some of her cynicism had rubbed off on me. Then I stopped being smart.
“Yeah,” I told her, “since I’ve been married to you, I’ve certainly become more cynical.”

I’ve already done plenty of dumb stuff, and will do plenty more.

I tend to avoid the dumb stuff more now…my body doesn’t stand up to it like it used to.

my wife’s probably tired of hearing me repeat that stupid people don’t get smarter as they age…

I never make the same mistake twice. I am so busy making new ones, I don’t have time to repeat any of them.

After you’ve dodged a Darwin Award a few times, you gradually learn to be more careful.
Usually.
