Ah, yes! Reading a newspaper, great Sunday morning pastime. Had one set of the g-kids over for the weekend and we did our usual routine, breakfast and morning cartoons plus before we went out on promised activities, read both our newspapers. Much to the g-kids chagrin as they were ready to go out and about. Fast foward to being back home at moms. “Mom, do you want to know what grandma and grandpa do when we’re down there?” You can only imagine what was going through daughter’s mind but she was able to maintain some semblance of composure and ask, “No, what do they do when your down there?” Grandson responded with much indignation, “They read newspapers! Two of them! Every word! Can you believe it? Two!?” As he held up two fingers for effect. Cue the BIG sigh of relief here.

I don’t think obituaries are easily found on your phone.

I know of one person who advised reading newspapers three weeks in arrears. He felt he was very well informed, but the issues seemed less urgent.

How do Pluggers read something on their flip phones? The screens are awfully small.

What is this “morning paper” of which you speak?

I know a number of old pluggers who do not have cell phones of any kind. One even has a rotary dial home phone (and he lives in a fairly large city vs a rural area)

Or aren’t more than a day old.

Our local newspaper is daily, but prints stuff two to four days old. including “upcoming events”.

Our daily paper does a really great job keeping the ads up to date.

I gave up on the weekly paper. The articles are so poorly written and uninformative. It’s an odd day when they even cover local news beyond the first page stories. It quickly moves to regional or state items which don’t really matter. That is, if you can find the stories amongst all the advertising. The weekly paper does a better job of providing information about what is going on in the city and suburbs.

I don’t see any news on my phone. Husband watches the news (always CBS) – though mostly for the weather report and I read the newspaper.
