I’m not sure about the wisdom of telling a kid that he has to (be brave) in the face of potentially devastating news.
And it might have been better for Kenny to hear the news via someone who’s right there snd can provide support – the principal, maybe, or a favorite teacher. But Delray probably never got to experience that kind of consideration when he was a kid, so he doesn’t know that to pass it on.
