Coming Soon đ At the beginning of April, youâll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
I remember an SCTV episode where Dave Thomas plays a Scot and Rick Moranis plays a rabbi. The rabbiâs response to, âHey Jew, had enough holidays yet?â is, âHey English, why donât you cut down a tree and put it in your living room?â I know this has nothing to do about climate change, but still enjoy a slice of Canadian humour⊠eh? (Donât even get me started on Kids in the Hall!)
But then, every winter, these machineâs carbon-eliminating devices will fall to the ground rendering them useless fo at least 6 months. Damn, you, climate change! How dare you foil our intentions yet again!
Of course if there was less poverty in the world (I mean if a handful of people didnât have 95%+ of the wealth) then thereâd be less deforestation too. Win, win.
Tax the rich and corporations to make them pay their fair share â instead of the insanity of putting their fair burden on the shoulders of everyone but them. What a concept.
I did something that is a double-headed plan for reducing CO2âŠI quit mowing a plot of land that I almost never used for anything, and am letting it go back to a mixed growth forest. Less exhaust from my mower, less use of fossil fuels, and the Pines, Cedars, Oaks, and Spruce trees are spreading like crazy! Sure, itâs only about an acre or so, but every little bit helps. Plus, I like the fact that there are more birds and other wildlife coming backâŠ
Unfortunate. The just-plant-trees error is a bad penny that keeps turning up.
Fortunately, there is enhanced weathering of silicates. The result, alkaline earth carbonate and silica, is rock. It does not need to be buried and itâs down for good. Please also see https://eprints.whiterose.ac.uk/163140/
How many trees have been cut down in your neighborhood in just the last ten years? How many have been replaced? Multiply by millions â thereâs your problem.
âBut it probably pumps harmful byproducts into the airâŠâ Technically, they doâand of course Republicans jumped on that, deliberately ignoring the bigger picture.
(excerpt) In 1981, President Ronald Reagan claimed that trees produce more air pollution than automobiles, fueling a spate of jokes about âkiller trees.â He was mostly wrong, but not completely.
It is true that forests emit volatile organic compounds and reactive hydrocarbons such as isoprene, a chemical that contributes to air pollution. Although isoprene is harmless by itself, the gas reacts with other substances in the atmosphere to form certain types of fine aerosols and ground-level ozone. (Ozone near the ground causes health problems, damages crops, and contributes to climate change. In the stratosphere, it is beneficial because it prevents harmful ultraviolet rays from reaching Earthâs surface.)
âWhat Reagan neglected to indicate is that unhealthly levels of ozone wouldnât form without nitrogen oxides (NOx), pollutants emitted when gasoline and coal are burned,â explained Bryan Duncan, an atmospheric scientist at NASAâs Goddard Space Flight Center and the deputy project scientist for the Aura satellite. Since sunlight is ubiquitous and forests emit large quantities of volatile organics in the summer, it is the amount of nitrogen oxide that determines whether ozone forms over cities on hot summer days. That NOx is most often supplied by vehicles. (end excerpt)

Unfortunately, theyâre flammable, and will release much of the carbon as theyâre being killed by fire.

Not just trees! Grasses and shrubs are better adapted to many ecosystems and retain a huge amount of carbon in the soil.

A billboard lovely as a tree.
And if the billboards do not fall,
Iâll never see a tree at all.

Yes, we know how to reverse climate change. The mega corporations just havenât found solutions they can monopolize and price gouge.

Not sure how well added oxygen will do for us since we would still have too much CO2.
