This reminds me, when i was at school there was a skating rink at the Jr High. everyone took lessons in the afternoon. but you all got your skates at a local sports shop, the skates were in the basement down a steep stair and i remember lined the walls, you turned in the last year’s pair you had grown out of, got a new pair-no boxes just walls lined with them, the sizes written on the heels in wax, and then you’d get them sharpened while you waited, the guys bending over the blades and the smell and sound of hot metal. -I haven’t thought of that place in years.
I wouldn’t expect Charles to know, but there is such a thing. I have an inherited ankle defect that I passed on to two of my children. Since I switched to wearing only good sneakers, I haven’t had too much trouble. Only broke one a couple of times in the last decade. Did get me out of marching in heels at OCS almost 50 years ago, so that was a plus. When I skated as a child, I wore out the inside side of the skates, because that’s what touched the ground, not the blade.
Actually there is a such thing as weak ankles. I was diagnosed with them after I broke my left one at the age of 5. I cannot wear heeled shoes of any height or ice skate.
There is such a thing, Peppermint Patty. But I think it more comes along when you hit middle age, and may not be a constant thing. I certainly have times now where I have weak ankles, though usually that’s around the time I’m going to bed. Makes me wonder if I’m gonnna have to slide on my backside down the stairs to go to the bathroom or if their going to hold up enough that I can put most of my weight on my arm and the hand rail.

They making a sports movie out of this? Maybe the coach has a terminal illness and dies just before the BIG competition.

I wonder how Marcie would have turned out when she would have become an adult?

Marcie doesn’t want to play anything. Not even for fun.

This story arc was adapted into the special “She’s a Good Skate, Charlie Brown.”

Skating coaches must have bad reputations.

I agree with Marcie, and maybe P. Patty’s explanation is sound, but the very few times I tried ice skating my ankles really took a beating…

Any old fart like me remember the 1980 peanuts special She’s a good skate Charlie Brown? P.P’s teacher actually spoke instead of the trombone sounds.

I have weak ankles too and it made it difficult to do ballet.
