This is what happens when you ignore a 19-month old long enough and they have to resort to changing their own diapers - The kid puts two legs into one leg of their pants. I don’t know what is more surprising -- that April is physically capable of doing this OR that Michael is actually doing homework!
Told my son who became a teacher to never give homework, you will be the favorite and then you will not have to take it all home and grade it. That would in fact save him homework!
Michael goes to a government-run high school, a.k.a. “public” school. Kids there cannot read, write, or do simple math. Michael has not yet finished his own toilet training.
Too bad Michael does not go to Elizabeth’s school. We just had two weeks of looking at her school where Elizabeth did not focus at all on math, science, or geography, but entirely on Dawn’s head!
Learn this lesson while you’re young: every age is difficult. Your challenges continue to change as you age. The benefit of aging is that it brings perspective (not wisdom, necessarily), which allows you to accept the changes better. I’ve heard that studies show that older people are generally happier than younger ones. That’s what I’ve experienced. Don’t fear the future; accept and appreciate it!
Just like Elly is able to type with her eyes closed, apparently Mike can do his homework with his eyes closed. If he didn’t have that ability, April might have gotten the attention she needed.

You’re going to be a swell father to that kid’s niece and nephew, Mike-o.

Friends’ daughter needed to go potty and mom was making dinner so she came over to me and tugged at my skirt. I immediately helped the little one.

Oh no. Don’t tell me this charming family comic is now going to devolve into toilet humor!

Where were April’s fingers before she put them in her mouth?

Mike does have a point, though. Teachers seem to be piling hours of homework on their students, both when this strip was done and today.
Could it be because there is a serious lack of skilled educators??

Well crap! She had an accident and it’s Mike’s fault because he was to busy doing his homework. …wait. What?

As an ex-principal, I’d like to say that I agree completely with Mike’s observation in the 2nd panel.

One wonders how she got to Mike-o’s room with both legs in the same pant leg.

She’s obviously potty trained, no diaper. So what idiot dressed her in a jumper? She needs something she can just pull down.
