From Colorado where this happened, wildlife folks said that their tools couldn’t cut through the steel radial. So taking the antlers off was their only alternative
Better than what happened to a bear that had his head stuck in a plastic jar & ended up being euthanized instead of tranquilized to get the jar off its head.
I wonder if people know who and why this sort of things happens? It is done by “environmentalists” who try to make game animals less attractive to “trophy” hunters looking for larger racks in their hunts.

It has a downside of him being unable to possibly breed, but an upside he probably will not be hunted this season.

Couldn’t figure out why they cut the antlers off, when they could have cut the tire, I mean the elk was already tranquilized, so….

I read something last week about another animal (moose I think) that got caught in a swingset and had a similar outcome.

Think about all the elk heads in the elk lodges free of tires.

I believe they only had to remove the antler on one side.
