In going off the word “bit”, I was trying to figure out how to work “drill” into a family forum. I couldn’t do it, my mind started to wander. In the back of my mind, I knew “lathe” was in there somewhere, kind of “saw” that one coming.
I took a beginning wood-working class once and learned two important things: First, I really don’t like ‘power’ tools that can take your finger off if you blink at the wrong time; and second, that a ‘jig’ isn’t a specific tool, it is just what the instructor (and wood-workers everywhere) call the ‘thing-a-ma-jig’ that they want at the time that either doesn’t have a real name or has a name they can’t remember. The wall of the workroom held about 100 ‘jigs’ and I would usually try seven or eight before I selected the one the instructor was talking about. [And people make fun of women who talk about the ‘what-cha-ma-call-it’. At least we generally use descriptors and hand gestures to clarify.]

That works until she cuts the “E” off the end, then she’s suddenly into plaster work.
