Back in my day, a dude was someone who couldn’t ride a horse, or someone wet behind the ears, or someone fresh out of school, or someone new at the job, or ….
I suspect I’m about Earl’s age. The word I remember from the 60’s might have been ‘man’ usually with a preface like ‘hey, man.’ A little before that— since Beatnik slang blended into hippy slang— guy was a ‘cat’ and a girl was a ‘chick.’

Just the one with a shoe that’s untied. Check to see if Nelson could have meant you, then have a serious talk with his mother.

Notice he already seems to have forgotten about the untied shoe. :)

That’s OK, Earl. Mine have called me dude, and also dudesicle (which I also call them), but usually they go with my official title – Granddude.
