I’ve been singing that song to kids for decades—they always love it, and once they learn it, join in on all the verses and love to shout out the last line of the last verse … “SHE’S DEAD OF COURSE!”
Panel 3: What on Earth is Elizabeth wearing?? ….. Panel 4: I think this is the first time you see a cat in this comic strip.… though I could be wrong…
Nice song. …ick. Speaking of Sesame Street, just once, I want to eat cookies like the cookie monster in a restaurant. Preferably a high class one that I will never go back to again. ..of course I would have to go into a “high-class” restaurant in the first place, soooo maybe not.
I wonder if this song is now banned in school because it would traumatize the little snowflakes and require a counselor to brought in to help with their PTSD.

This is one of my favorite Liz outfits. Sometimes simple is best.

I know an old lady who swallowed a cow
I don’t know how she swallowed the cow
She swallowed the cow to catch the goat
She swallowed the goat to catch the dog
She swallowed the dog to catch the cat
She swallowed the cat to catch the bird
She swallowed the bird to catch the spider
That wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly
But I don’t know why she swallowed that fly
Perhaps she’ll die
I know an old lady who swallowed a horse
She’s alive and well of course!

April’s wondering how to get cat hair off your tongue.

From her thought balloon, April is eating the fly.

I know he didn’t write it, but this song was tailor-made for Shel Silverstein, like a precursor to “Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout.”

Yet another reason to keep small ones away from the telly.

Being April, I would have thought she would try to eat a fly next instead of just being puzzled by the poem.

Only time I remember it being done was by Judy Collins on the Muppet Show. I don’t know if it’s on any of her albums.
