What would Calvin do on a computer? I don’t think his house has an internet connection in order to see any certain websites upon which he would stumble that aren’t suitable for minors.

Ya know… It’s probably for the best that he didn’t get a computer for Christmas, as they weren’t very powerful back then. Why, I’m willing to bet that that ouija board’s got more internal memory than your average home computer did back in the 80’s when this strip originally ran in the paper. Then again, I doubt you can play Frogger on one though…..

When it comes to predicting the future, a computer is about as good as a Ouija board.

“Seduction by Ouija” was a game played by some in college. Hot date… Ouija out… “Oh, spirits of the Ouija, do you think Hottie Dayte should boink (for example) Count Olaf?” and the planchet would mysteriously zoom to “YES”. Actually worked a few times, too. Just sayin’ Told to me by a friend, of course. You can Count on it. ;9

42 would have been a more interesting answer. “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” was published in 1979, so including that as a gag isn’t out of the question depending on which this comic strip was first published.

Hello all, I am sorry to say I’m quitting GC commenting. I have gotten a bit carried away with commenting recently, and have started to come down with insomnia. Now, normally this wouldn’t be a problem. But due to my recent depression and mental illness, (Personal reasons) it has made me more prone. Goodbye – Ponch

The board was trying to state 3 X 14 = 42, but Calvin was too impatient as usual. So the correct answer is 42

So far 10% of the commenters have said the answer is “42”. But Douglas Adams got it slightly wrong. The answer Deep Thought actually gave was “420”.

Calvin does poorly in school. You don’t need an Ouija board to see he will be a lazy slob who spends his welfare checks on alcohol.

42 is the answer to an unknowable question, seeing how both cannot exist is the same universe at the same time. So 3 seems perfectly reasonable to me how a Ouija board knows everything.

Notice how they assumed that the answer stopped at 3, or else they figured that any further movement would fail to clarify. No wonder Watterson didn’t go with 42; they would have stopped at 4.
