I got a car vacuum solely because I bought my mother a new car. I canât imagine any other reason why my sister would give me one. Itâll probably remain unopened until my nephew wants to earn pocket money cleaning the car.
Ahh the practical gifts. I still remember the year that underwear replaced toys. The biggest hint was my first Gillette razor and pamphlets for the Air Force, Army and Navy.
Did that accidentally one year. I forgot one of my wifeâs presents I had hidden and she found it about a month later. She enjoyed that and found it amusing.
It was a tradition to get gifts from âthe new yearâ in our family. Usually it was something like a personal box of chocolates that you didnât have to share, an ornament or some sort of little toy, etc. Think there was some superstition attached to it at one time, but now it is just a way to ease out of the post holiday doldrums.
I did that a few years ago. Actually, I saved a gift until mid-January to try to really head off the winter blahs. Turned out it was a box of no longer fresh-baked cookies. I ate âem anyway, Stale cookies are still cookies.

Does Aunt Gladys think Monty is going bald? He still has a lot of hair. Must have been a regift. Maybe Aunt Gladys is losing her hair.

My luck wouldâve been a pair of socks or package of underwear. Or worse, a book entitled: âLosing Weight for Dummies.â

Well, cheers, Monty! Looks like Aunt Gladys has a sense of humor!
(And itâs good to see you taking down your tree on the right day, since today marks the official end of the Christmas season.)
