So, it appears that Tracy placed the items into a storage locker and that was, apparently, not the best move. Well, at least nobody broke into the police station, as some had speculated. I wonder if Tess came across Mr. Bones during her online research.
The drawing of Tracy is great in the first frame, but I’m not a fan of the last frame. He looks very stiff and it seems like his head is too big, primarily too elongated from our left to our right. Anyway, he’s feeling quite guilty about his failure.
Looking at the second panel, I have to wonder if we’ll ever see Sam read the funnies in a traditional newspaper again. It’s becoming a fully digital world.
Wait just a darn minute here. You’re telling me that the chief of detectives, “America’s Top Cop” is feeling bad because the collection of memorabilia owned by A BANK ROBBING FEDERAL CRIMINAL WHO BROKE OUT OF PRISON got stolen?
can we PLEASE get a writer on this strip that DOESN’T * make the main character such a frickin’ pansy?
1-DT: Dead end? Maybe you’ve been sitting too long, Doll. OH! Ok. Bye.
SAM: Doll need a softer spot to sit? I’ve got one for her right here
2-DT: Huh? No. She’s been going door-to-door of the known fishermen in Tracyville…
3-…My mounted, prize winning bluegill was stolen from my storage locker. I was certain the perp stole it to mount on his wall and claim the honor for himself. By the way, guess how big that sumbich was! Here – I’ll give you a hint…
While I saw yesterday’s strip and did get a chance to comment. But I believe those who post here can help me. Is or was there an online or correspondence course about Dick Tracy? Why did Mr. Bones tell Blackjack he can have his collection back now that he is out of the course. He took one heck of a chance telling Blackjack what he did. Wonder if this is a credit or non-credit class.
I think Shelley was trying to work in a good-sized picture of Tracy around a large-size exposition-heavy dialogue balloon. As others have said, she’s learning. & without much room to work in she did a good job of capturing the distressed expression on Tracy’s face, especially for a profile.
Does anyone else think it’s weird that Dick Tracy refers to the Dick Tracy collection as “The Dick Tracy collection?” Shouldn’t he have referred to it as “Blackjack’s collection?”
Tracy is feeling the “agenbite of inwit” (to use Joyce’s phrase), remorse for the loss of Blackjack’s collection, which he had taken under his care. He even realizes that Blackjack’s breakout was likely due to concern for the lost collection (which is basically correct). What Tracy has to do now, besides having Tess comb the internet, is get into full detective mode despite his special duties for her honor the mayor. The exhibit is open now, so it’s time to stake out the Gould Library to vet visitors, although there are supposedly “eyes” on that job already, eyes that seemingly have missed Blackjack in his wonderful disguise and Richard Bonhomme, a known (?) assassin, engaging him in conversation…

Tracy looks really weird today, especially in panel three!
Life must be really slow in Tracyville if a storage room break in makes the front page!
I actually like Tracy’s remorse and accountability in panel three, it makes sense (shocking for this strip!) and makes him human.

I guess Tess’ romantic life is gonna be on hold until Tracy gets back Jack’s collection.

Aw, a big tough lug like Tracy getting all emotionally hung up on a jailbreaking bank robber. This is a Tracy story at its grittiest.

So, who knew the collection was in a storage locker at Top Drawer?

How much of a collection did Blackjack have? Enough to take up garage space?

I wonder if Mr. Bones is going to use Tracy’s loss of Blackjack’s collection as motivation for Blackjack to kill Tracy.

Tracy, it is sitting right in the exhibit dedicated to you.
