My late puss used to sit on the threshold after I opened the door, great way to let all the heat out. Not going out, not coming in. Still, I miss ol’ Puss.
The other way around here Justin. Our 4 month old Chihuahua got as far as putting her paws on the deck and retreated, -29°C. Last year we boarded a Bernese Mountain after a house fire, she practically lived in the snow drifts.
Our Phred had a cry for when she wanted us to take her out for some supervised yard time. OWWWWTTTTT, OOOWWWWWTTTT, sung at the top of her lungs by the door. Thank you for bringing that memory up :).
Had a volunteer cat and a Siamese. The first big snow, the volunteer had a ball jumping into the snow drifts and tunneling. The Siamese was nudged out the door. I swear he turned in mid-air, paws did not touch the porch and back in the door. That was the last time he went out until spring.
It didn’t start out as a Christmas song. Frank Loesser wrote it in 1944 and performed it with his wife Lynn Garland at the end of parties. (Later he sold it to MGM; she felt betrayed by that. It was performed by Esther Williams and Ricardo Montalban in the 1948 movie “Neptune’s Daughter.”)

Cute. One of our cats can be ….insistent. If I tell her to hush, she’ll meow at us quieter.

He’ll blame you later, when he comes back in.

It’s great when reality inspires your humor. And when you make lemonade from lemons.

Wonderful and brilliant. I hear the same song most days but in 4-part harmony. (We have a secure cat run but it’s on the north side of the house.)

I love it when they look atyou afterwards – ‘What The F*** is all that white stuff?’ … and it’s all your fault!

When you derive inspiration from your cat, you’re in safe territory, even if it is a cold territory….

Nobody’s Moggy Lands. Reprinted from Songworm 2
This parody was sung by Seanan McGuire on Roundworm
Parody of “No Man’s Land”, words and music by Eric Bogle
…
Well, how do you do, old Moggy the Cat?
I just noticed you landed where I almost sat.
Do you mind if I push you a bit to the side?
I’ve been driving all day on the road where you died.
…
You’ve been squashed like some butterfly pressed between glass.
Were you hit by a truck that was moving too fast?
Did he slam on the brake as he saw you go past?
Or, Moggy the Cat, did he step on the gas?
…
Chorus:
…
Did he honk the horn loudly?
Did you stand your ground proudly?
Did a shadow fall o’er ya as the truck mowed you down?
Did your eyes glow in that fleeting darkness?
Did the birds come and pick at your carcass?
…
The ground squirrels and mice all seem happy today.
The butterflies frolic; the hummingbirds play.
A mockingbird sits there composing a dirge,
’Til he finally yields to his scavenger urge.
…
The robins and sparrows all join in the feast,
In their joyous relief that the terror has ceased.
And the birds dance around you, not sad in the least,
Like the Munchkins danced over the Witch of the East.
…
(Chorus)
…
Old Moggy the Cat, I still wonder why
You road-kill look so damned surprised when you die.
Did you think that some animal spirit survives?
Did you really believe that you cats have nine lives?
…
Well, if that is true, this is life Number Ten:
Getting ever more flat, spinning ’round now and then,
As the cars run you over again and again,
And again and again and again and again.
