    Today is:

National Fruitcake Day. None for me, thanks. I’ve never tried it, but it just doesn’t look appealing to me. I will not be snorking any fruitcake today (or ever).

From yesterday’s comments to JLChi who said, "I will not enable those who wish to enslave me.

I would make John do a fair share of the work BEFORE the meal and if he doesn’t, he doesn’t eat. And if he doesn’t contribute a fair share after the meal, he doesn’t get to eat next time.

And that should be daily, not just for holidays."

Most years, the only day we see John is Christmas day and that’s okay with us, as we are not close to him at all. He is selfish and inconsiderate and thinks only of himself. He always arrives right at mealtime with barely a minute to spare. The last time I hosted Christmas at my house, John swore he was NOT coming to dinner because he had plans with his wife (now ex-wife) and her kids. I had the table all set with my Christmas plates and even if I do say so myself, the table looked really nice (at least, by my family’s standards). We were all just sitting down to eat and in walks John with the wife and I think it was 4 kids. I wanted to tell him that they could all go sit in the living room while the rest of us ate. I was doing a slow burn and what a jerk he was. We were having ham, but then we found out the wife and kids didn’t eat pork. We didn’t have enough mashed potatoes for all those extra people (John usually eats enough to count as 3 servings by himself). But Paul and Jim thought we should feed these extra people, so we had to put out stuff in the oven to keep warm while Paul ran up to the gas station/convenience store for food for our unexpected (and in my book, unwelcome) company. He bought instant mashed potatoes and some other type of meat. So, after we got those things prepared, we say down to eat and while John had his 3 servings of everything, the wife and kids sat there not eating anything. The kids made it very clear they did not want to be there. They left right after John finished feeding his face.

Dogs are much more talented at snorfing than cats because they have much less dignity. “Snorf” is an excellent word, but “inhale” fits a St Bernard and a can of dog food. I actually saw Chopper inhale a can before it hit the bowl.

And here I thought a snork was some kind of long necked bird. It’s amazing what you learn from reading comics. Not crazy about salmon, but I’d like to snork up a tuna sandwich. On another note, saw a wren, a woodpecker, a raven, and two varied thrushes while out walking today.
