This reminds me of a story allegedly from the middle ages. A man was walking by a quarry and he saw two other men laboring away.
He asked the first man, “What are you doing?” and the man responded “Chipping away at a rock.”
He asked the second man, “What are you doing?” and he responded, “Building a cathedral.”
I’ve found this anecdote to be important when I was a manager of teams. If you can show people why their little piece is important in the big scheme, then they feel important too.
