This is why with a food-assertive dog we have scheduled treats. It’s at such an exact time I had to set a reminder on my Echo that announces it to be treat time. That way, I don’t get bothered much. My neighbor rewards her dog for doing what he should do outside every morning, and my dog has learned that if she jumps enough at the neighbor, she will get a treat. I have repeatedly told my neighbor that a therapy dog is not supposed to ever jump on anyone, but if the treats continue, I will not stop my dog. My dog still jumps at her every time we go out. I can walk my dog with a pocketful of treats and not get bothered as she knows I won’t relent. I proved that to another neighbor when she had some chicken for my dog. I said give it to me until you are ready to feed it to her. So she did, and once it was in my pocket, my dog just walked, no begging. Someone has to be in charge. If the owner isn’t, the dog will take over. My dog is still spoiled rotten and loved to pieces, but I am in charge.

No action, no treat! The treats are inside the house.

A good example of the dog training the owner.

A treat and hopefully he won’t need his little hairy butt peeled off the ice. So, two treats, to assuage your guilt.

One of you is going to have to cave. If you have any sense, Muttlet, you will do so before you freeze solid. Come on, Doglet, go!

She better give you a treat! She throws you out in the cold and doesn’t even come out with you!
