B.C.: âThis IS easier in winterâŠâŠ.But that rock was effinâ COLD! And why are we standing around half-naked in winter with ice and snow about?â
Iâve learned to look carefully when skating under the bridges over the Rideau Canal Skateway (https://ncc-ccn.gc.ca/places/rideau-canal-skateway). Vandals like to throw stones onto the ice; and I have the stitches to prove it.
Many years ago I read a Superman comic where Jimmy Olsen was having to do some pretty big bets to get some of Supermanâs stuff back (at least thatâs what I remember). One bet was that he could hit a golf ball a mile. Howâd he do it? It was winter and he drove the ball down the frozen river. I just kept going and going and going.
Hit the longest drive of my life on December 24th 1975âŠthe ball bounced onto a flooded and frozen drainage ditch just to the left of the fairway. The ball didnât stop rolling until it was deposited in front of the green 400 yards away.
The world record for âducks and drakesâ is âThe Guinness World Record for the furthest distance skimmed using natural stone stands at 121.8m for men, established by Dougie Isaacs (Scotland), and 52.5m for women, thrown by Nina Luginbuhl (Switzerland). These records were made on the 28th of May 2018 at Abernant Lake, Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys, Wales.â So, the âabilityâ now comes down to âdistance thrownâ rather than ânumber of skipsâ, as I knew it.
The god Coyote, on being told the Mormons believe Jesus appeared to the Native Americans:
âJesus? Oh yeah, I remember him. Really nice guy, but he made a big deal about coming back from the dead, and he only did it once. Still, he showed me this neat âwalking on waterâ trick. I can do it pretty good, in the wintertime.â â Christopher Moore, âCoyote Blueâ

True, that. But most of the rocks are frozen to the ground as well.

Skipping rocks across ice makes a really neat sound.
Felix Raven about 3 years ago
Did the author actually try this? It wont skip much, after a couple, the stone would only slide.
