Popcorn is sacred in Spud’s world.

Thank you Will Henry for triggering memories of school bus trips in the late 1950’s. Fun, adventure and at times terror.

Spud seems to have a huge respect for popcorn.

Spud’s initial reaction in panel 2 is “There’s a cooler back there?”

I feel like there is an incident involving popcorn that we’re not yet privy to, touchy subject for Spud.

That’s it Wallace, distract Spud with the mention of food.

I like the way Wallace is pointing to the visual in his head from a hole in reality. It’s not just a thought balloon.

By the way: twice, now, Wallace has mentioned “4th graders.” In which grade is he?

As an adult, Spud will look back at his childhood and recall Wallace as the kid he should have stayed away from. That’s assuming he makes it to adulthood.

When I drove a school bus over speed bumps or bad bridge sections, there were times I’d slow down to the point of barely creeping over the bump. Really p1ssed off the back seat kids. And then other times, when they had stopped anticipating the bump we’d just fly over them and I’d watch them in the “granny mirror” as they took flight in terror. Good times, good times.

We used to sit, poised, in the back row…ready to jump when we hit a bump. Highest points to whomever hit the roof.
