My husband turns on the TV to a channel that runs nothing but cop shows and can watch it ALL day, with commercials. One of these days I will shoot that TV.
I do that too sometimes: sit there fretfully, waiting for the endless commercials to cease, then finally remembering I recorded the show. I think it goes back to early days when you couldn’t do anything about the ads but sit through them.
Some channels will not allow commercials to be skipped even when on DVR. I find that highly annoying. I prefer to pick my own potty breaks and snack times.
I have saved hours over the past few years by recording the live games and sometimes use the extended time feature beyond the TV schedule. Wait about 45 minutes and then start the playback.
By the time I fast forward through the commercials and injury stoppages and get to the live action again either the game has concluded or is within a few minutes.
Makes me far more productive by having more time to view recorded shows that I will soon forget, nap or throw together some between meal snacks.

Occasionally we’ll watch them if they look like they’re going to be entertaining.

Personally, I need the commercials to get some other things done.

Good time to take a bathroom break.

I thought it was because the commercials had better production values than the program.

I catch myself doing that more frequently than I’d prefer to admit.

Nah! Like everyone else you just don’t have the ability to constantly pay attention to what you’re doing for more than a few minutes at a time.

The person who invented the method of fast forwarding, especially through commercials, deserves multiple Nobel prizes.
